After celebrating a century of service in DST, the Chapter looks to carry its legacy of excellence into the next century with a membership that has grown to over 600 members strong. The Chapter continues to serve the community, while building leadership and inspiring sisterhood – just as it has for over 45 years!
Since its inception, SHFBAC has continued to promote and execute the national programmatic thrusts of the Sorority. These thrusts aim to maximize our impact on the community. The Chapter built alliances with agencies such as the American Heart Association, the NAACP, the Fort Bend Women’s Center, Houston Community College, the Ensemble Theater and the United Negro College Fund to name a few.
The Chapter also embarked upon the establishment of the Delta Academic Artistic and Philanthropic Foundation (DAAP), so that it might broaden its support of the contributors to our scholarship fund. Several programs were conducted for extended periods of time, such as School America SAT preparation workshops for high school students, the Black Arts Festival (which showcased relatively unknown Black Visual Artists such as Ted Ellis and high school performers) and the Nutcracker Production.
Other Chapter activities include community health fairs, May Week, HIV/AIDS awareness programs and voter mobilization and registration.
